Why is ISO Certification Important?

Great Circle Oceanmaster life rafts are manufactured to ISO 9650 – Group 1, the new international life raft standard for blue water, ocean applications and it has further enhancements that surpass the National Marine Safety Committee’s (NMSC) requirements so that they can be used on Australian vessels in survey.  Great Circle Oceanmaster life rafts are listed on the NMSC’s Register of Compliant Equipment for Commercial Vessels [Please see: www.nmsc.gov.au and select ‘Approved Products’ tab, Life Saving Appliances (item 37).

In the context of life raft design and manufacture, ISO has many criteria covering all types of shipping, both commercial and leisure craft. ISO 9650 for instance, is a new, comprehensive, technical specification detailing all the materials and manufacturing processes used in the construction of life rafts for smaller commercial and recreational vessels. Performance requirements covering inflation, launching, material resistance, buoyancy and interior space are also spelt out in detail.

What’s the difference between Oceanmasters & Coastmasters?

There are two main differences between Oceanmaster and Coastmaster Life Rafts. 1) The Oceanmaster has slightly more space than a similarly sized  Coastmaster and 2) Oceanmasters are equipped with external boarding platforms to aid entry into the rafts while Coastmasters have traditional webbing and hard rung ladder and entry bridle systems.

Although the Coastmasters are not approved for commercial survey or yacht racing applications, they offer superior life saving features and are great value for recreational purposes.

Why is ISO Certification Important?

Emergency Equipment Packs

Emergency equipment packs

Emergency equipment packs

All Great Circle Life Rafts come with an emergency pack. Their contents are compiled to comply with specifications laid down by various authorities or by specific request from customers.

ISO UNDER 24 HOUR PACK is compliant with standard ISO 9650 where survivor rescue is expected in less than 24 hours. Compliant to YA Racing Rules of Sailing, 2013 - 2016. Contains essential equipment for the proper fucntioning of the life raft but with limited personal supplies - reduced drinking water and no food rations for example. Reduced pack weight is a significant advantage to weight conscious racing sailboats and to those mariners who prefer limited perishable items (things that have a dated service life - food and water rations, first aid supplies, flares etc.) aboard their raft. An emergency abandon ship grab bag with additional survival items is strongly recommended.

ISO OVER 24 HOUR PACK is compliant with standard ISO 9650 and contains equipment and supplies to sustain survivors greater than 24 hours. It is required by all State Marine Authorities for commercial vessels operating under survey requirements and where 'Notice of Race' under Yachting Australia, Racing Rules of Sailing, 2013 - 2016,requires additional survivor equipment. It is also the optimum pack for unregulated recreational and blue water mariners. A 406 MHz. EPIRB should be included for commercial vessels operating under survey requirements.

VOYAGER PACK  Ideally provisioned pack for blue water and long distance cruising. Formally called ‘Coastal’ Pack by Marine Authorities, additional drinking water compliments most of the components found in the YA pack. It offers appropriate supplies and equipment for longer term survival without excessive package weight.

There are also SOLAS Packs’ for commercial shipping operating internationally, and customised emergency packs for non-regulated vessels.

STOWAGE OPTIONS

12 Year Life Raft Guarantee – conditions apply

We guarantee quality and we strive hard for functionality, reliability and durability with products that will see many years of service because we know that when you’re miles out at sea, your life may depend on our craftsmanship.

Our confidence in the quality, workmanship and reliability of our life rafts allow us to provide a 12 year guarantee for all the life rafts we manufacture, provided they undergo inspections at required intervals in a Great Circle Life Rafts approved service facility.

The guarantee is valid only on return of the guarantee card and subject to the terms and conditions therein.

Deck and Locker Stowage Options

Life rafts can be stowed in two ways: a non-waterproof soft valise for underdeck or locker storage and a hard fibreglass canister for on deck. Great Circle canisters are equipped with two or four handles (depending on the model) which provide a better grip for carrying and also makes throwing into the water easier. Deck mounted canisters endure many years in the tough marine environment and Great Circle’s solid fibreglass cases provide the best in protection. Sealed in its protective envelope inside the canister, your life-raft is ready for any emergency.

The valise option still requires that the raft be protected from chafing and sharp objects and a dedicated locker devoted to abandon ship equipment is recommended.

Canister Storage Option

Neat and low profile hard fibreglass case for cradle or deck mount stowage.

Valise Storage Option

Compact, strong and highly visible polyester case for locker or cabin stowage.

Great Circle Life Raft Canister Cradle

Thanks to its innovative design, Great Circle’s life raft cradle fits all makes and sizes of life raft canister up to twelve person. Its adjustable design ensures that your raft is held snugly and securely and it can be mounted horizontally or, depending on the raft’s weight, vertically, for example, on a push-pit rail*.

Cradles are an important part of life raft safety. They make it easy to mount your raft in a location where it’s easily accessible in an emergency. Our cradles accept hydrostatic release mechanisms and the quality retaining strap can be padlocked for security (remember to unlock prior to departure).

Canister Storage

Great Circle Universal Cradle

Our cradles are constructed of 25mm, marine grade stainless-steel tube. Side and back securing arms are easily adjustable to suit the length and width of your raft’s canister.

All cradles are supplied with a complete set of mounting hardware, including the ability to vertically mount the cradle on a push-pit for example*.

*Caution: vertical mounting recommended for smaller raft canisters only – ensure push-pit rail integrity and strength.
